OAKDALE RD BURGLARY

For some reason, I am not getting any notifications from the police on incidents within the village. Myself and Paul Salisbury have had a meeting with representatives of the police and hope that our previous good communications relationship can be resurrected in the near future.

In the meantime, I have been advised by one of our parish councillors that two elderly ladies living in Oakdale Road were burgled on Tuesday.

They came home from shopping and in a rush to dash to the loo and get the washing in, they forgot to lock their back door.  One of the ladies suffers from dementia and on Wednesday she found that she could not find her handbag which she thinks she left on the kitchen table.  It therefore would appear that someone was watching them amble down the road and took advantage of the unlocked door and stole the handbag and a coat.

The police have been informed and have visited them.

This should really act as a reminder to everyone that everyone should check that access to their property remains secure and locked at all times when not in use. Yes, it may be inconvienient but at least it will help prevent crime, particularly from the opportunist thief which has been in evidence over the last twelve months or so.
